This is a fantastic spectacular walk and on a clear day offers outstanding panoramic views. Our walk starts on a lovely track through lush pine forest followed by a stiff climb of over 500m up a steep sided ridge which broadens out at the top.
We then gently amble along on another forest track to a fabulous viewing point with stunning vistas of the Anaga peninsula, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the south coast, the Güímar valley, the observatories of Izaña, and Mount Teide.
This is another new “must do” walk exploring the rugged geological landscape of Tenerife.
It is an adventurous hike in that generally speaking the rugged terrain makes our progress slow in places but not dangerous, however, sure footedness is required.
Simply put – for a good walker this is a must as views abound over to the island of La Gomera and inland to Mount Teide. One of the key features of this walk as the name suggests, is a volcanic dome formed five and a half million years ago during the Tertiary period.
The Anaga Mountains occupy a large section of the north-east part of Tenerife and consists of coastline, ravines, forests and villages that are so remote it is amazing that anyone actually lives in them.
This whole area is a protected natural landscape. It is breathtakingly beautiful and full of twists and turns that will delight and amaze. Our walk is a great introduction to the area and its outstanding natural beauty.
This is another fabulous hike; everyone that does it sings its praises! The Barranco de Ruiz is a beautiful area in the north of Tenerife and protected by law.
The walk starts on an old “camino” (Guanche trail) traversing up the gorge where there is much flora and fauna to be seen due to the micro-climate within the gorge. It is not only a refuge for endemic plants such as oxtongue and fragrant jasmine, it is also the habitat of numerous birds of prey such as falcons, owls and sparrow hawks.
