Discover the beauty of some of Tenerife’s amazing gorges (barrancos) whilst walking on old traditional paths and trails that link the remote farms and hamlets of Adeje.
These hidden gems are stunningly beautiful and definitely away from the crowds. The barrancos tell a sorry tale in local history as the Guanche King or “Mencey” of Adeje hid with his tribe in the caves here and fought off the Spanish Conquistadors.
The barrancos also have many endemic plants and flowers and the geological structures are simply awesome.
This is a nice, easy walk in the Chinyero Special Nature Reserve, mostly through pine forest but with some sections across lava flows. This means that the scenery changes constantly as you circuit the volcano.
Here you will see fabulous views of Mount Teide and some of the dramatic rock formations formed during the last eruption from the Chinyero vent in 1909.
The walk perfectly demonstrates Tenerife’s changing landscapes and a favourite with many.
This is a superb walk exploring the terraced farmland and pine forest in the mid lands of Tenerife.
